Medieval Music Essays - Medieval Music, Chants, Catholic Music

Medieval Music Essays - Medieval Music, Chants, Catholic Music Medieval Music Music of the Middle Ages made incredible headways as the centuries progressed, which numerous are as yet apparent today. The Christian Church affected the advancement of music extraordinarily during the medieval times. The primary significant kind of music of this time was reciting. ?The early Christians acquired the Jewish serenades of synagogues.?(Bishop-324) Chants didn?t have steady mood, each note was about a similar length. They had just a single tune ,normally in the significant key of C. All the vocalists sang similar notes together, this is called monophonic. Serenades turned into a critical piece of the community gathering, they were sung all through the mass. These first serenades were simply sung by the assemblage, later on ensembles dominated. ?Roman Chant got known as Gregorian serenade after Pope Gregory I, the incredible, who may have made some out of the tunes and who effectively empowered an efficient, ritualized utilization of music by the church.?(MS Encarta-1) He additionally upheld the schola cantorum, a singing school, to show young men how to recite. During the ninth century numerous performers started to utilize more than unaccompanied tune. Another kind of serenade was framed called organom. Organum was two octaves of reciting all the while. ?Organum was essential to the historical backdrop of music, since it was the initial move toward the advancement of the melodic surface known as polyphony (multipart music) the broad utilization of which is the most unmistakable element of Western music.? (MS Encarta-1) Around the twelfth century Organum was generally being created in France, yet the English did have their own form called gymel. If performers somehow managed to recite numerous pitches simultaneously, they required an increasingly exact melodic documentation. Prior to this, the documentation being utilized wasn?t exact by any stretch of the imagination. ?Music documentation was initially simply a lot of little denotes, such a short hand, composed over the words to show the ascent and fall of the voice and changes in accentuation, without indicating the term of the notes or the specific pitch.?(Bishop-325) The better approach for composing melodic notes was dark squares furthermore, jewels connected to little posts on a staff of four or five lines, fundamentally the same as how we compose music today. Music, during the fourteenth century, rolled out extraordinary improvements in style. ?The new style was called ars nova (Latin, ?new workmanship?) by one of it?s driving writers, the French prelate Philippe de Vitry. The subsequent music was more mind boggling than any recently composed, mirroring another soul in Europe that underscored human cleverness and ingenuity.?(MS Encarta-2) De Vitry likewise created the most punctual rendition of the timing scheme, making it simpler to play and compose progressively confused examples. Ars nova authors started to rehash similar examples of possibly one or then again more voice parts, for the most part from Gregorian serenade, all through the piece. Over that they would put different tunes making it polyphonic. ?Nonreligious, or common, music was created by meandering artists who sang of gallantry what's more, dignified love in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.?(Comptons-1) Some of these performers gotten by of singing, others did it for the delight. These vocalists, Troubadours and Goliards, didn?t have a wide scope of singing styles. More than 2,000 of these tunes have been composed and spared in old archives made after the twelfth century however. ?The performer of the early Middle Ages appears to be typically to have been minstrel either occupant in an enormous foundation or venturing out from foundation to another, singing the lays and adventures to his own accompaniment.?(Montagu-19) Performers were expected to help different kinds of diversion too. Gymnastic performers would perform to music, much the same as performers, and moving bears. Poor laborers didn?t have a lot to accomplish for diversion with the exception of music. They would recount stories to music or have individuals sing while they moved. They most likely sang while cooperating as well, similar to a kind of ocean chantey. Indeed despite the fact that they were delighted in by numerous individuals, artists were as yet viewed as an exceptionally low class. A large number of the principal instruments of the early Middle Ages were taken from the before Roman Empire, or from different societies around the globe. One string instrument utilized a ton was the lyre. ?It is conceivable that the lyre was conveyed into northern Europe from Constantinople during the late Roman Empire, for a significant number of the Byzantime armed forces, particularly the Imperial Protector, were enlisted from the northern peoples.?(Montagu-13) During the early medieval times it was played by culling the strings with a plectrum or fingers,. Later in the tenth century bows turned out to be progressively mainstream and the lyre was likewise played with one. The

Nexus Financial Service Pty Ltd

Question: Examine about the Nexus Financial Service Pty Ltd. Answer: Presentation: The idea of learning and improvement (LD) is a piece of human asset the executives of any association (Pollock, Wick and Jefferson 2015). In our module, we have a subject of the idea of learning and improvement. The two terms implies the manner by which any organization attempts to improve the current aptitudes and strategies utilized by its laborers over the span of their activity. The improvement happens by giving essential preparing, sorting out workshops and assessing the representatives on their presentation after the workshop (Klob 2014). In this article, I have taken up the association named Nexus Financial Service Pty Ltd to comprehend the manner by which they execute the hypothesis of LD in their system. Likewise, the requirement for utilizing the devices of LD so as to flourish and exceed expectations in the business has been concentrated through this article. As per the hypothesis of Learning Development, any association or organization attempts to sharpen the aptitudes of its managers. The improvement of aptitude should be possible through the technique for learning and teaching the businesses (Purce 2014). Since business in worldwide market is a unique idea, there is have to persistently up-grade one-self and stay at standard with the worldwide economy. The picked organization is entrenched in its space. Consequently, I have picked this organization to dissect the current extent of research and learning inside the outskirts of this organization and the manner by which it utilizes the equivalent to create and grow its market. Our gathering, which is managing this LD hypothesis, has individuals from various societies with their own qualities and convictions (Mondy and Martocchio 2016). This is valuable as all of them has alternate point of view of investigating the issue, which is impacted by their own way of life. This is going to give a worldwide view to the picked theme. The picked organization Nexus Financial Service is a piece of the NEXUS Group and was established in the year 2006. Mahmoud Nodjoumi established this organization in the wake of purchasing the acclaimed Zurich International Life, which was in activity since 1989 (www.nexusadvice.com 2016). The Nexus Group at present is the biggest monetary gathering working in Singapore and has its reach out all through the whole region of Gulf Cooperation Council. The organization takes into account both corporate just as individual customers with their item portfolio in the area of reserve funds, protection and venture. At present, the gathering has in excess of 550 specialists and in excess of 160 associations that give preparing and backing to all the workers of the organization around the world (www.nexusadvice.com 2016). Managing the plans of venture and protection requires an exceptional aptitude of human inspiration of control. Since, no individual thinks the same, no organizations takes up p rotections or puts resources into any arrangement for a similar explanation, consequently the gathering needs to take into account its customers as per their individualistic needs. This is the sole purpose behind which I picked this organization. Each organization utilizes various strategies and techniques for executing the LD inside their association in understanding kind of work that they do. The organization, which I have picked, requires receiving barely any straightforward procedures so as to exceed expectations in their previously existing Learning and Development plans of the association (Alvesson and Sveningsson 2015). The guidelines, which as indicated by me can help the association in further achievement, are talked about here on. Right off the bat, the businesses ought to be furnished with standard preparing whereby they ought to be informed about the customer base of the organization. Since, the activity job of the organization requires direct cooperation with the customers so as to sell their items henceforth, a firm understanding about the customer is required for the accomplishment of the organization. The representatives ought to have definite information about their customer base with the goal that they can f igure their strategy for activity in like manner. Also, I would recommend that the organization ought to give extraordinary preparing to its new representatives whereby they gets data about the core of the business activity carried on by the Nexus Financial Service Pty Ltd. Alongside knowing the core of the business they ought to likewise be educated about the partnered business carried on by the organization. Also, the organization is encouraged to continue refreshing its old representatives of the adjustments in the current business portfolio. Thirdly, the partner frames a basic piece of the association. Without them, the association couldn't endure. Thus, the gatherings of partner ought to be obviously educated about the vision of the organization. It ought to be the obligation of the workers to pass on this idea to them. Through an appropriate workshop of LD held by the human asset group of Nexus, this idea ought to be clarified to the representatives (Hogan and Coote 2014). Fou rthly, the association is required to follow the Insular procedure so care is given to every individual division inside the association. Individuals of every division ought to gain admittance to the preparation with the goal that they can return the greatest benefit for the benefit of the organization. At long last, the most significant thing that can be instructed as a section concerning LD is to continue refreshing their course of preparing to stay on top of the universally received methodologies and spare the association from being multiplied in business (Mathis et al. 2016). This exposition can be wrapped up by expressing the discoveries about Nexus Financial Service. As per my perception, Nexus has been fruitful in business since long back when it was under the Zurich International Life. Indeed, even at present, it is the main money related counselor in numerous nations and this is preposterous except if it has comprehensively led inquire about available. It has been discovered that the organization has been utilizing the most recent innovations and focuses in updating their framework. The LD plot oversaw by their HR division has assumed a vital job in keeping up the altruism of the organization in International market. It has effectively made an adaptable situation whereby all the representatives and the customers stayed very much educated and upbeat about the administration gave and got. I might want to close by expressing that with greater interest in the LD area and constant assessment of the companys execution dependent on ROI of the organization, it has opportunity to stay among the choice organizations offering money related types of assistance. For this applies to all humanity; that G-d will reprimand each animal for everything obscure, be it fortunate or unfortunate. The accompanying entry implies that individuals compose a great deal of books, yet perusing is an exercise in futility. Living for G-d isn't subject to what may befall us throughout everyday life. 7. Be that as it may, did G-d truly state to you of the product of the Tree of Good and Bad you will not eat? This is a statement from Genesis, where the snake inquires as to whether G-d truly said they insect eat from the tree of the information on great and shrewdness. Found in Genesis 3:1 . A Guide to the ACT for Tutors

Being an ACT tutor is a rewarding experience. But before you start imparting your wisdom to others, you need to know the ins and outs of tutoring. In this post, well take a look at the exam through a new lens: the ACT for tutors. Here at Magoosh, weve worked with thousands of students on improving their ACT scores. Whether youre just starting your work as a tutor or have been tutoring for a long time now, we hope youll find some new tips and strategies to help your students (and yourself) strive for excellence! Getting to Know Your Students Every student you tutor will have the same goalimprove their ACT scores but have completely different roadblocks between them and success. That is why, when you meet your students for the first time, get to know them as individuals rather than just test takers. Learning a little about the person can say a lot about what he or she needs to succeed on the ACT. For example, lets look at case studies two very different types of students, and how you might approach each on your first meeting. The first type of student is one who would rather be anywhere else than sitting with you. Most likely they don’t care about the ACT, and are only there because their parents made them. Though they might seem antagonistic, conversing with them about their interests and what they might want to do after high school can give you an opening to discuss the importance of the ACT. Also, research if your state has a lottery scholarship awarded based on ACT scores. The prospect of a little money can go a long way in getting teenagers on board with studying. Another type of student is the overachiever. Though usually good-natured, the pressure to perform well may have led this student to a cycle of stress and disappointment when it comes to high-stakes tests. For these students, a discussion about study planning and college applications can put some of their worries to rest, while showing them that they have some control over the process. High school juniors already have enough on their plate, so giving them help (or even telling a story about yourself) can reduce their stress and build rapport. Differentiation Once you get to know your students as people, it’s time to get to know them as students. Before your first tutoring session, it’s always a good idea to ask the parents a few questions. Do they do well in school? Do they struggle in any particular subject(s)? Even if you receive some information from the parents, always ask the students about themselves, too. It makes them feel more invested in the process, and that you actually care about their situation and future. Beyond that, it may give you a completely different perspective on their learning styles than parental information did. Always take the time to do this. The key to differentiation amongst students is scaffolding. Unlike the scaffolds around buildings under construction, an academic scaffold is the level of support you give to a student throughout the lesson. Some students, when they learn a new concept, have very little trouble applying it to practice problems. Others will struggle more, and this is when more scaffolding can help. Scaffolding doesn’t mean doing the problems for them, but rather offering the right amount of guidance. Though some trial and error will be necessary to determine how much scaffolding each student requires, the right level of support goes a long way to helping students progress and internalize concepts youve covered together. Tracking Progress Whether you have one student or twenty, tracking progress is an important step in both your success as a teacher and your students’ success on the ACT. Your students, like all people completing a task, want to see that their efforts are having a positive effect. This can be especially tough when some processes, such as test prep, can take some time to show appreciable affects, and learning new techniques can initially cause a dip in scores (before they shoot up, of course!) Having student graph their own progress can ease some of this student worry. Before teaching a concept, have students answer roughly twenty questions that focused on that concept. Have them record their scores (you should keep track of them as well). After teaching concept and students have practiced it, theyll then answer a new set of twenty questions. Its important to note that there are usually a handful of students who still struggle with this second set. With these students, make sure to go back and give those students a greater amount of scaffolding during the next session. Make it Engaging As we all know, teenagers can be some of the most cynical people on the planet. Try to do something nice for them and half the time, the best you can hope for is an eye roll. Nevertheless, as a tutor, your job depends just as much on engaging your audience as knowing the content and strategies to conquer the ACT. It’s not just about making the material fun, but also about making it relevant to students’ plans for the future. Its a little intimidating, especially if youre new to tutoring, but its true: you really only have one shot to make the material relevant before the students either tune in or out what you’re trying to teach them. The first few minutes of the lesson are the most important, the hook you use to catch students attention. Let’s say, for example, that you’ve prepared a lesson on charts and graphs on the ACT Science Test. As most students struggle with this part of the ACT, you know their frustration with the subject will cause many of them to tune out really quickly. You can’t throw students into the deep end right away, and you want to connect the lesson to their lives. Therefore, you begin the lesson by having students analyze the charts and graphs they see in their daily lives, or some that they may encounter as adults. A perfect example is a nutrition label. Asking students some basic questions about the chart/graph theyve already seen will activate prior knowledge. Not only will students see the relevance of the lesson, but the hook activity will prime their brains for the new concepts you will teach. Consider it the mental equivalent of stretching before a run. But Remember†¦ At the end of the day, you are these students’ instructor. If you’ve never worked with adolescents before, here are a few tips: Be friendly, but not their friend. Dont get involved in unnecessary discussions about their friendships, family, or other inappropriate topics. Reserve praise for when it is due. Students need to know that when you do praise them, you mean it. (The flip side of this is to make sure to offer praise when they have!) Every tutoring session is a new opportunity to reach out to a student. Final Thoughts Being a tutor is a big responsibility. Even if it’s just for an hour a week, someone has put their child’s future in your hands. Don’t take that responsibility lightly, even for a moment. Take pride in the fact that you’re doing the good work that will guide a young man or woman towards a better future. If I had a hat, I’d tip it to you. 🙂

Is ethical theory applicable to practice Essay Example For Students

Is ethical theory applicable to practice Essay Is ethical theory useful in day to day life? Do I use ethical theory to make a choice? I will use three philosophers, Alasdair MacIntyre, Jonathan Bennett, and Mary Midgley to assist me in answering these questions. In her work â€Å"Trying Out One’s New Sword† Midgley argues against moral isolationism. The notion that one can only fully understand our culture and that we should not attempt to judge other cultures because we simply don’t understand them. She uses the example of a Japanese samurai trying out his new sword on someone of a lower caste than him to make sure that the sword will work in battle. In order to bring honor to his ancestors, emperor, and himself his sword has to bisect a person from the shoulder to the flank in one blow. The â€Å"guinea pig† used in this experiment has to suffer from one or more undoubtedly painful blows. According to Midgley, us Westerners should not be horrified by this custom, if we were to follow the moral isolationism perspective. To do something for the sheer sake of honor is so foreign to us that we can not judge this action by the ancient Japanese. Midgley quickly rejects the notion of moral isolationism on several grounds. First, if we are unable to judge other cultures then we are incapable of either praising them or criticizing them. Second, if we can not judge other cultures then they should not be able to criticize our culture. Third, and most importantly, if we can not judge other cultures then we can not judge our own culture either. This is because we learn from other cultures, they give us a range of different actions that can be taken. Also our own â€Å"American† culture has so much variation that it can not be considered one single entity. Midgley writes:â€Å"In short, moral isolationism would lay down a ban on moral reasoningThe power of moral judgment is, in fact, not a luxury, not a perverse indulgence of the self-righteous. It is a necessityWithout opinions of this sort judgments, we would have no framework of comparison for our own policy, no chance of profiting by other people’s insights or mis takes† (Arthur, Pg.86-87)What Midgley is saying is that moral reasoning is not something that we can do without. Whether we think it is useful or not, we still use it in order to know what to avoid and what to go for. Our ability to judge other cultures has helped ours evolve and it is what will keep us evolving. Moral reasoning is what keeps our criminal justice system going, without it we would then live in a state of anarchy and disorder. Alasdair MacIntyre, wrote in his lecture â€Å"Is Patriotism a Virtue?† about where does our morality come from. He argues that morality comes from the community we live in. Without our sense of morality we would be unable to live within a community. It is our morality that keeps the community together, if we were to have conflicting views in the most basic levels then our community would fall apart. He writes â€Å"I need those around me to reinforce my moral strengths and assist me in remedying my moral weaknesses† (Arthur Pg.56). This quote ties in very well with Midgley ‘s argument that without morality there would be chaos because if morality comes from our community, and if it is our common morality that holds a community together, then without morality our inability to judge what is good or evil will also keep us from forming groups. What both Midgley and MacIntyre did not argue about was the possibility that their own morality might be bad. Airplane Case Study essay

Airplane Case Study essay Airplane Case Study essay Airplane Case Study essaySouthern Airlines is one of the most successful airlines due to its low-cost strategy. At the moment, the company still holds a strong position in the market, but there is a risk that other low-cost airlines that simulated its model could enhance their position and tighten the competition in the industry. Therefore, Southern Airlines should come prepared to possible challenges associated with the appearance of new rivals, including the increasing competition from the part of companies operating in other segments of the market. At the moment, the bargaining power of suppliers is high, although it is important to place emphasis on the fact that Southern Airlines is totally dependent on Boeing as the only supplier, while there is an alternative company that can also supply aircrafts of the same class, Airbus. The dependence of Southern Airlines on Boeing is almost absolute because it cannot shift to another supplier since such a decision would need the complete r estructuring of the fleet and training of the personnel. The bargaining power of customers is high today because the recent economic recession has had enormous impact on the airline industry and caused substantial financial losses of many airlines because of the drop of the number of customers. In such a situation, Southern Airlines cannot compensate its losses by increasing the price because it has to keep customers interested in services of the company, while the price was always the main advantage of the company over its rivals. This is why today customers are in a privileged position, while Southern Airlines offers them maximum flexibility in booking and changing tickets providing minimal essential services for the lowest price. The threat of new entrants is rather low at the moment, because even those companies that currently operate in the market face substantial difficulties. Therefore, new entrants will have substantial difficulties, if they decide to enter the market right no w, when it is in a steep decline. In such a situation, Southern Airlines puts potential new rivals in a disadvantageous position because they can hardly offer customers lower price, while the price is the determinant factor for many customers today (Calder, 2012). As a result, the company should not worry much about the risk of the appearance of new entrants although there are options of existing companies operating in other segments to develop their low-cost subsidiaries. The threat of substitute products is medium because customers cannot always refuse from flights. Southern Airlines offer faster delivery of customers than any other means of transport, like trains, for instance (Littman, 2002). In such a situation, substitutes are likely to attract a part of customers of airlines, including customers of Southern Airlines, but still customers cannot refuse totally from using services of the company, especially the company offering services at the lowest price in the industry. Thus, t he competitive rivalry within the industry is tight at the moment and Southern Airlines should come prepared to confront the tightening competition. To put it more precisely, Southern Airlines faces the tightening competition from the part of low-cost airlines which simulate its own model and offer similar services at the similar price not only in those markets, where Southern Airlines does not operate, but also in those markets, where the company counts on a large share of the market. In addition, the company faces the threat of airlines operating in other segments developing their low-cost subsidiaries.

Getting A High Quality Semester Reflection Essay Sample

Getting A High Quality Semester Reflection Essay SampleFinding a high quality semester reflection essay sample can be difficult. This is because of the limited number of essay samples that are available online, and the fact that they are often sold as for a price much higher than what you would pay if you bought it in person at your college bookstore. When looking for an online essay, you want to take a few things into consideration. These include getting one that is original, and one that is professionally done. If you choose a program that does not offer online essays, and you do not select one that is done professionally, you will have a very difficult time getting the results that you desire. What you want to look for in an essay sample is one that is original and is written for a college essay contest. An essay sample that is not original is simply plagiarized work that is being offered for sale. A high quality semester essay should be written by someone who is well-versed in the English language. This means that you should not find essay samples written by professors or other college instructors. To get this, you will need to find a sample that is produced by someone who is writing on a certain topic and is trying to put together a cohesive essay. If the essay sample does not reflect their subject matter, you will find that the sample itself is not original. The quality of the sample is determined by the editors of the company offering the essay. To find a sample, you should take note of how many different editors have helped to edit the sample. If you are choosing a sample based solely on the number of editors who have edited it, you will find that you will not get the kind of writing style that you want, as well as the kind of essay that you need. One of the best places to look for a good essay sample is from a recently completed essay orfrom a recent essay contest. The reason for this is that if a school has just started an essay contest, this is usually an excellent opportunity to find a good essay. The editor will usually have gone through and edited hundreds of essays for the student who participated in the essay contest. This makes it easy to find a sample that is of high quality. If you are getting a good set of essays, you will then be able to get the exact kind of essay that you are looking for.

Maybe youve s truggled for a few months or maybe youve been trying to finish your book for years. Either way, weve got the best tips to actually complete your manuscript.#1 OutlineThe best way to finish a project (and finish it quickly!) is to have a plan. A book’s plan is your outline. Now, not everyone is on board with book outlines. There are â€Å"plotters,† there are â€Å"pantsers,† and there are the in-betweeners (which we affectionately call â€Å"plotsers†).However, even writers who finish books regularly and claim they are vehemently against outlines are usually outlining.Whats the difference between pantsers and plotters?â€Å"Pantsers† tend to call their first draft something like a discovery draft, or draft zero, or, as Nora Roberts calls it, the piece of shit draft.Even though they say they don’t outline, this first draft is a type of outline. Even though Stephen King says, â€Å"Outlines are the last resource of bad fiction writers,† we know what he really means is, â€Å"My first draft is actually a type of outline, and that’s the method I’ve found that works for me, personally.†Ã¢â‚¬Å"Prose is architecture. It’s not interior design.† Ernest HemingwaySome people love every single detail planned before they begin writing, while others think outlines make their stories too formulaic. The good news is, there’s a type of outline for everyone! If there isn’t one already penned in existence, you can make. one. up. 😠®There are so many different kinds of outlines:Extremely detailed outlines with a sentence for every action in each sceneBasic bullet points of the ideas you want to cover, or â€Å"first draft† outlines where you plan your book by writing a version of itDraft zero, a pansted first draft, is one you can finish in roughly the same amount of time it takes you to plan and outline your bookYou don’t have to follow certain outline rules or g uidelinesyour outline is a tool for you and the way you work. So find a system that works best and utilize it!Pro Outlining Tip: If you’re more of a â€Å"pantser,† use what I call a â€Å"liquid outline.† Let it be flexible as your project progresses. For example, start with a bullet point outline of what you expect to happen, then as you write each chapter, go back and revise your outline when things change. This will keep you on track and organized, but it will also allow you the freedom and on-the-spot creativity of â€Å"pantsing† your book.#2 Schedule your writing timeA great way to stay productive is to set a writing schedule in order to develop a writing habit. Here are a few questions to ask yourself in order to finish writing your book:Which days and times will you write? How long will you write in each session? Will you hit a time limit each day, or do you want to reach a certain word count?Further than scheduling your writing, you can schedule t he entire publication process to keep your book on track through production and into marketing! Having a timeline for drafting, editing, beta rounds, cover, and interior design, book release, marketing, etc., will help you work more efficiently and coordinate the steps that require other people. For example, many cover designers require you to book months, or even years, in advance! Scheduling and planning will help you stay ahead of possible roadblocks.#3 Budget and saveSelf-publishing might be more expensive than you think it will be! If you haven’t done it yet, take some time to research possible costs of publishing a book. For example, do you want a cover designer? A professional editor? Special marketing? Determine out how much it will cost and how long you have to save, then set up a savings plan to be sure you can cover these costs.Heres a breakdown of potential costs you have to consider when writing your book:If you have no idea how to set up a savings plan, Jenna Mor eci has a great video on budgeting and savings basics! If you don’t take the time to budget for book production and save ahead of time, you may happen upon a charge you weren’t expecting and aren’t prepared to pay. Then your options are to halt production to save for it, go without, or take a loan.Saving ahead of time is much better than all three of those options, so do your research! If you want more information on the publishing expenses you can expect, check out the video below- and the biggest cost might be the most surprising. #4 Be realisticIn scheduling, budgeting, and saving, be realistic about your goals and timelines. If you convince yourself you have four hours of writing time each day to finish a draft in a month, but you have a full-time job and three kids? That’s probably not a realistic goal. Maybe you can only write for twenty minutes a day. Maybe you can only write on weekends. Maybe writing a few paragraphs during lunch breaks is your onl y option for now.Be honest, be logical, and set goals you have a chance of achieving. While you can always find ways to write faster in order to make the most of that writing time, you still have to set reasonable goals.Nothing is more demoralizing than never reaching your goals.#5 Consider finding a team to hold yourself accountableI have a critique group with two other writers who are also writing fantasy novels. Every Sunday, we exchange the chapter we wrote that week, as well as the other two writer’s chapters from the previous week with our critique comments. When utilizing a critique partner or group, I recommend the following:Find people with similar WIPsSet up a schedule for swapping chapters, stories, poems, scripts, etc.Keep open lines of communication!Having other people expect your routine updates, as well as having other people to discuss issues and setbacks, will help to keep you on track with a writing schedule. At Self-Publishing School, theres actually a Maste rmind Community each student gets to be a part of where accountability partners run rampant. All these writers are looking for others to help them finish writing their books.#6 Make your WIP a part of your lifeLet your book take up a lot of real estate in your mind, your home, and your daily life.As you grow your writing platform and market your book, talk about your work in progress. Tell your friends and family about it.The more people who know youre writing a book, the more theyll ask you about it.This hold you accountable to actually finish writing your book. You can even make a Youtube channel, like mine, in order to have more people familiar with you writing a book. (This is also a great strategy to market yourself as a writer)If you make a physical outline or a moodboard, hang it by your desk where you can see it. Set your main character’s profile sketch as your phone background.Make it where you can’t skip a writing day without thinking about it.This will keep your mind working toward solutions for your project every day.#7 Power through!Don’t let yourself get hung up on edits before your draft is finished. Don’t overthink itjust focus on getting through your first draft.Of course it won’t be perfect! But, like Nora Roberts said, â€Å"you can fix anything but a blank page.†You can’t edit nothing! Don’t slow down, keep your momentum, and pound out that first draft! The hardest part of writing a book is finishing the first draft. After that, its all downhill so just get it done!#8 Avoid burnoutWriting burnout is when you feel like your work is trash. You think you have nothing important to say. Maybe you think no one cares about what you’re writing or maybe youve fallen into a pit of writers block. Don’t fall into this hole!Your first instinct when confronted with writing burnout is usually to stop writing. Never stop writing. Maybe this WIP is sucking your joy, but realize that it is n’t you, and it isn’t your writingit’s the project.Try swapping to something a little easier, like a short story or a poem, but set a time to return to your book. Don’t let so much time slip away that you get too far away to return. Remind yourself of the reason to write a book in the first place.Ask yourself these questions if youre feeling writer burnout:Where does your inspiration come from?Who are you writing for?Why is it important to you?Write down your motivation and hang it somewhere you can see itDon’t let yourself get burned out before you can finish your project. Take a breather, but make a promise to yourself that you’ll get back to work and set a specific time to do so.Moral of the story: plan ahead and DON’T STOP UNTIL YOU’RE FINISHED!Are you ready to start- and finally finish- your book? Turn in to our free training to help you go from blank page to published author in as little as 90 days.Yes, how long it takes to write a book can be as little as three months with our methods!

Cultural References in Translation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Cultural References in Translation - Essay Example What makes people a group are not only the affinities of its members, but rather the diversity its members have towards what stands outside of it: the action of culture is similar to the two faces of a wall, which both encloses and, on the other side, protects from what is unknown and obscure, from what is foreign. And the language is the most important (and most efficient) wall a group have to protect its society, its structures and its culture. As the language is the main vehicle (and product itself) of a culture, it is almost impossible to translate the same cultural reference in a different language: the final result will always be lacking something in the power of the form or in its deep meaning. Obviously, this problem is minimum in translations between two similar languages, such as Slovenian and Russian are, or between two societies which have several believes in common, but the problem still remains, because it is impossible to transpose both the meaning and its form, even if we consider the French and British societies, quite different for many aspects, such as independent linguistic origins, but extremely similar for history and development. It is a nonsense to think of a word as a simple 'label' of just one concept3, because a single concept, especially the ideas expressing historical or traditional objects, has different meanings, according to the culture or society it refers to. It is enough to consider the diff erent values that the word Renaissance has: although it points to a defined period of British history, the Italian word Rinascimento refers to a definitely different historical period (1385/1492) and, moreover, to a completely separate sets of values. This is nothing but an insignificant example, but it portrays the misunderstanding a cultural reference could generate: a word achieves a meaning depending on the environment it surrounds it, and in this case it would consist in a wrong interpretation of history. Transposing a meaning is sometimes even impossible: if we consider the fact that English Language has neuter form, while French has not, or if we consider the fact that adjectives have feminine forms in French and English have not (Mon cher/ Ma chre vs. My dear), it is easy to understand how difficult is for the translator to transmit both meaning and form from a language into the other. Even mere objects, such as houses, cars and so on, achieve (or miss) some original feature s of theirs when translated. The word bois describes a wood and evocates the features a wood has in France, describes the species of trees this wood is made of, recollects the sounds of the animals peopling it: it creates an image which has nothing to deal with a wood situated in New Zealand. Obviously this problem is avoided in movies, illustrated books, or children books, as the features of the objects are defined and the words are not requested to portray what has already been constructed by the image, but it remains in literature, especially when a word

The Silk Road and its effects on the economic development of India, Essay

The Silk Road and its effects on the economic development of India, China, and Southeast Asia - Essay Example India, China, and Southeast Asia were central locations along the Silk Road. The trade route brought together a number of civilizations, with the common denominator of their interaction being the long distance trade between them. The trade locations that the Silk Road covered enhanced the history of every single party. Cultures were exchanged and the foundations of economic growth and development were laid. The various dynasties that existed, including but not limited to Western Han (206 BC–24 AD), Eastern Han (25–220), and Tang (618–907) among others influenced the pursuits of each civilization involved (Boulnois, 2005). China was a key player in the long distance trade that made up the Silk Road. With the Silk Road named after the primary trade product, China’s economy was undoubtedly heading for growth and development. The traded silk in this route came from China, among other traded goods at the time (Christian, 2000). The dominance of silk as a trade product in the Silk Road exacerbated the economic performance in China. Technologies were also exchanged; a scenario that best suited China’s economy. Contributing traders in this pursuit were the Indians, Bactrian, Sogdian traders between the 5th and 8th century CE, and later the Arabs and Persians (Waugh,

Berkshire Hathaway Essay Example for Free

Berkshire Hathaway Essay Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is an American multinational conglomerate holding company, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, that oversees and manages a number of subsidiary companies. The company wholly owns Geico, BNSF, Lubrizol, Dairy Queen, Fruit of the Loom, Helzberg Diamonds, FlightSafety International, and Netjets. It also owns half of Heinz and has significant minority holdings in American Express, Coca-Cola Company, Wells Fargo, IBM, and Restaurant Brands International. I have done a lot of research into Berkshire Hathaway and CEO Warren Buffet but have been unable to find a vision or mission statement. If I had to make up a vision statement that suitably fit Berkshire Hathaway it would be the following: â€Å"Berkshire Hathaway strives to be the best-recognized, most highly respected, and most influential conglomerate company in the world.† The mission statement would be: â€Å"To provide top of the line services that significantly increase the growth of the company’s agents and affiliates.† I believe this fits this company perfectly because Berkshire Hathaway is notorious for its ingenious investing and services all thanks to a man named Warren Buffet who started out acquiring businesses. Buffet is one of the world’s wealthiest men and a key influencer in the financial market. He is Forbes’ number 33 most powerful people and ranked among Time Magazine’s most influential people. His company was ranked number 1 in Barron’s 2013 ranking of the world’s 100 most respected companies, number 8 in Fortune Magazine’s 50 most admirable companies survey, number 18 in Harris Interactive’s reputation study of the 60 most visible companies, and Forbes’ fifth largest company in the world. In his 2013 letter to shareholders, Buffet spoke of his joy for working for such a successful company. He noted, â€Å"No CEO has it better; I truly do feel like tap dancing to work every day.† My vision and mission statement align appropriately with what Buffet has done and envisions for Berkshire Hathaway. Stakeholders: Internal- Board Members: Warren Buffet, Charlie Munger, Walter Scott Jr., Thomas S. Murphy, Howard Graham Buffet, Ronald Olson, Donald Keough, Charlotte Guyman, Bill Gates, Steve Burke, Susan Decker, Susan Decker, and Meryl Witmer. Shareholders: â€Å"We think of our shareholders as owner-partners, and of ourselves as managing partners.† –Warren Buffet Employees: About 302,000 full-time employees. External- Customers: All over the globe, predominantly in North America. Media: Perceive the company in a certain way. Subsidiaries: Geico, BNSF, Lubrizol, Dairy Queen, Fruit of the Loom, Helzberg Diamonds, FlightSafety International, ect. Communities: Omaha, Nebraska and other local communities.  Government: Local and Federal Governments.
